Brick Chamber Overview
From its humble beginnings as a small farming town and quaint seashore resort
community over 150 years ago, Brick Township has evolved into New Jersey's 13th
largest municipality. Our ideal, central location, 26 square-mile size and
favorable proximity to the New York and Philadelphia Metropolitan area make Brick Township a
great place to live, work and do business!
Bordered to the East by the Atlantic Ocean, Barnegat Bay and all the
attractions of the famous New Jersey Shore,
Brick Township residents enjoy easy access to a wealth of lifestyle enhancements
and recreational opportunities.
The ongoing influx of year-round residents seeking this "good life" of the
Jersey Shore has created a promising future for Brick Township businesses, in
large part because of a steady increase in "built-in" customers who continue to
populate the region.
Brick Township Chamber of Commerce members can conveniently and cost-effectively
tap into this active marketplace and secure its many rewards. A minimal
investment in our independent, non-profit organization of local business
people-friends and neighbors, actually-offers a virtually limitless potential
for businesses of all kinds and sizes. Working together, our members create an
attractive, profitable climate, while maintaining the quality of life that
spurred our steady growth and impressive commercial success. Back to main menu
History
The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce has come a long way since
our incorporation in the spring of 1956. Our organization originally
consisted of a handful of members, a part-time secretary and a desk
in someone else's office. Our membership has steadily increased
over the years and in 1965 our membership numbered 68. In 1991 we
were at 310 members and currently we are over 600 members strong. Interesting to note is that according to Business News NJ, we are
the largest Chamber of Commerce in the State representing a single
municipality.
In order to serve our expanding membership, our office has moved into
increasingly larger space and we now enjoy a central location in the Civic Plaza
on Chambers Bridge Road.
We are fully equipped for the variety of services that the Chamber provides. Our
beautiful conference room, more often than not, has an activity taking place.
And our professional, full-time staff coordinates the plentiful and varied
programs and services of our very active coalition of business people.
We have a strong history of community involvement and have been a part of fairs,
parades and special events throughout the Township's history. The Chamber of
Commerce organized the Township's Founders' Day celebration for fourteen years
and held an Antique Automobile Show for many years to raise funds for
scholarships. The business community here is an extremely generous one as is
evidenced by its involvement in the Township's diverse educational and leisure
activities.
The Chamber's Educational Foundation annually awards scholarships, a program
whose origin is two-fold: the business community recognizes the need to ensure
an educated workforce and also wants a vehicle to give back to the community
that supports it. Since its inception in 1990, the program has awarded thousands
of dollars to deserving students for continuing vocational and academic
education.
A formal annual event that the Chamber organizes is an awards dinner that
recognizes local "heroes." The Distinguished Citizens Awards given by the
Chamber of Commerce have come to be an eagerly awaited event in the community.
Other community projects of the Chamber of Commerce include the publication of a
map of the Township and a Quality of Life Resource Guide.
The work, dedication and vision of many people have made our progress and
accomplishments possible. Our volunteers work tirelessly on committees for
special programs, our Board of Directors, also volunteers, show leadership,
strength and vision, and our dedicated staff members "give it their all" to help
us move forward. The strength, leadership and talent of these individuals have
helped to mold the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce into the large and
multifaceted organization that it is today.
